@gloriaelendu_: Each tribe has its unique approach to social justice because of its central belief. No tribe should be demonized or attacked. Respect and understanding is central to how we all navigate our approach to harmony between men and women. The very core values of the Igbo culture has and will always Truth (Eziokwu): Honesty, integrity and speaking truthfully. Justice (Ikpe ziri ezi): Doing what is right, resolving disputes and ensuring accountability. Fairness (Ịha nhata): Treating people equitably and avoiding partiality. Harmony (Udo): Maintaining peace, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Communal responsibility (Ịdị n'otu): Recognising that individual actions affect the wider community and that people have responsibilities towards one another. #socialjustice #igboculture #yorubaculture #fyp #explore

Kadara or ako sile isn’t Yoruba central belief, it’s Muslim belief.

I was saying this for so long, but people thought I was just being defensive, there’s nothing like “traditional man”, just undisciplined men who hide behind what they think tradition is, and if you look, it’s always something that benefits them.

Yoruba culture is not guided with the Idea of Sababi or kadara. It’s just liberalism and diplomacy. Like a Yoruba adage says “okun o kin ho ruru ka wa ruru” meaning you don’t respond to chaos and turbulence with anger and recklessness. Not a submission to destiny but giving way to diplomacy and liberalism . Also Yoruba women are not radical feminists not because they accept things the way they are and not determined to change things but because it seems there’s no much to change. Yoruba spirituality considers “iya mi” feminine power as the force that control the world, numerous female deities. Yoruba women held economic and political space in ancient times, they have a voice and power to make choices.

i agree, while what she said about traditional man is true, the concept of monarchy is so not true, and also igbos has been money from start not just after the civil war, just that it increased after the civil war bc to me they didn't have any means of survival but to depend on their strength and what they can become, when the country ganged up against them what were you expecting, why won't the Yoruba be rooted? what is distracting them? this country from the point of colonialism has put enough stress on igbos to make them even forget that they are igbos, the single mother aspect, igbos has a high sense of personification, it is bad when it is extreme no lies, but the igbo culture has been high on dignity bad side is the men excluded themselves from tge dignity coriculum

Exactly. in a way it now appears as if the over-cautiousness of the yorubas is cowardness.

Also, the idea that a 3 year civil war completely decimated Igbo culture in the way this creator suggests is just ridiculous. It's either the culture she's referring to did not exist ab-initio and was just being built prior to the war. Yoruba people fought for most of the 19th century culminating in the 16 year kiriji war at the end of that century, even enslaved Yoruba people took their cultures to the diaspora with them, how can anyone then say 3 year war completely erased a culture in that magnitude haba? You need to research this subject better, some of these claims don't hold.

Well articulated conversation, but the concept of Yoruba is wrong in relation to justice, yes Yoruba are accepting, and patient in their fight for justice, but the “kadara” conversation doesn’t apply to justice.

While I understand your point Gloria, I think the Yoruba media misrepresented some part of the culture, The IFA corpus is what the Yorubas use as a blueprint to life which was believed to be a channel/medium to the supreme being, now , everything is embedded in the IFA corpus(philosophy,Science,Psychology, Art, religion/spirituality, justice etc) and that made Yorubas to be diplomatic and open minded to different outcomes of events , hence the believe in the mysterious nature of life happenings, however not in rapes or injustice as your example, Life chart (Akosejaye) is what helps people chart their own path but again doesn’t mean that it’s cast in stone as IFA corpus is forever dynamic (which makes Babalawo/Ifa priest makes enquiries each passing day), every other points you mentioned are valid. The Yorubas understood weakness and strength in each human, hence the representation of women in economics and commerce(IYALODE/IYALOJA) then men in Defence. It’s a structure that helps people manage strength and weakness, still has its own shortcomings too like every other cultural structures.

This is wrong. This is picking fraction to suit a narrative. You are talking about same Yoruba that kpaied themselves for years. Yoruba will understand and create chance before going extreme.

Yoruba women can be kings, so to speak. And even a Yoruba woman that her father died can take over in waiting of the eligible man to come of age which is also known as Adele-Oba.

It wasn't the civil war that made Igbos lose a lot of their identity, it was colonization and Christianity. The same thing affected Yorubas too. But I give you your flowers, you're very knowledgeable 💐

I don't know about Igbos, but this is not entirely true about Yoruba people. It's a fact that in Nigeria, prior to Tinubu's alliance with Buhari, the South west has been the center of opposition politics in Nigeria. Who were those who stood up to Abacha and the dictators before him? Yoruba people have a strong sense of injustice/justice, approach is just different as they're more strategic in prosecuting their aims while others tend to be more direct.

Gloria thank you [Heartwarming] The civil war did not create the Igbo business culture; rather, it honed and intensified it. The Igbos were already recognized as natural traders and entrepreneurs in pre-colonial and colonial times, but the post-war survival experience turned their commercial acumen into the tightly knit, highly resilient economic network we see today.
