@theplantandthepour: Why isn’t my Thanksgiving/Christmas Cactus blooming? This Thanksgiving cactus is one that my mother left in my care when she moved away and while I love having it…. to have a plant known for flowering, not flower, is sad. After experiencing something similar with orchids I decided to get this plant into some more natural season cycles and it immediately flowered. We all love stability, but sometimes change is what allows us to show our true beauty. #thanksgivingcactus #christmascactus #plantcare #plantcaretips #houseplants
Yeah, I’m not going to intentionally stress my plant out to make it flower. Mine flowers without putting it in a dark cold garage lol

It’s simply the grow lights that’s causing them not to bloom. They need the natural shift of less sunlight during the day in fall and winter to trigger those blooms. No need to potentially stress them out in the cold, plus I have way too many plants to remember sticking some in the garage before it gets too cold. Plus moving them back when they do bloom can cause many or all to drop as they are super fragile. I def recommend just moving it to a shadier part of your plant room, mine live behind my monstera so they get that canopy vibe they grow in in their natural habitat. Mine is covered in blooms already and hasn’t had an ounce of a cool breeze, the days getting shorter always do the trick for me!

Has anyone ever told you that with the toboggan on, you look like Ryan Hurst? I got clippings from a Christmas Cactus and my fingers are crossed that it blooms.😁

15 years and mine has never bloomed. I currently have it in the bonus room in the basement or it’s cold and has a grow light. I might take your advice and move out to the garage.

Move inside the second you see a bud, they will sometimes drop their buds if moved after.

I keep mine outside in a bright indirect shaded spot away from being rained on from spring until the lows at night are consistently in the low 40s at night and it buds well every year

I have my grandmas thanksgiving cactus. It hasn’t bloomed since she passed in 2022. This year it bloomed during my birthday month (September) so I feel it was a sign ❤️❤️
