@nicolettehill: Replying to @Bennett Listen, it’s not that I didn’t love #connorwood and his performance— I just didn’t think it was a ten? Especially if #amberglenn didn’t receive a 10 on a contemporary last week. I think Connor should’ve been scored more in line with #maurahiggins and #markballas … **kudos to Rylee, because (overall) the creative aspect was the major difference maker in that performance #dwts
Hot take: Guillermo has not been the most infantilized man this season

A woman dancer would absolutely have been criticized for all the couch choreo and never coming down to the main dance floor. But Conner gets an Olympic level of glazing Rylee was insanely good and her as Annabelle was very cool. But it wasn’t a 10

I've been seething all week about Harry getting all 10s for his contemporary a week after Amber got two 9s. She and pasha delivered a more challenging and interesting contemporary piece that got no critiques but was robbed of the first perfect score of the season

I think they need to change to voting to be more like figure skating where there is a difficulty score and a creativity score

I always think this. The men often just throw round their partners and get marked so highly while ballroom usually has the woman do all the flourish and are the focal point. Women are under more scrutiny as the focus

There’s always been an unfair bar for females on the show. Dance is sexist, just inherently. Outside of maybe the paso doble, the dances naturally require more of the females. They don’t ever seem to factor that into the scores though

I think all of the remaining women with the exception of Julia and Jenna are underscored. And the men with the possible exception of Ezra are over-scored.

for me it's the discrepancy between jackson's feedback to tatyana. She got valid feedback but horrible scores compared to jackson

It’s always unfair because the woman’s part in ballroom in general is more difficult and the male celebs can get away with a lot less. I think there also needs to be consistency with the length of dances, all within 10 seconds so we don’t have such a wild variation

They also need to stop basing scores on the individuals journey. A 10 should mean the same for everyone. Not that they started so badly that a dance that someone else would get a 7 for means they get a 10.
I'm shocked more people don't find this frustrating. All it does is confuse the audience and put the better dancers at risk.

Great feedback upon comparing these 2 contemporary dances, I’m happy you talked about how rigidness and feet comparison and talked about the lifts 6/4 and time of both dances 🙏🏻

earlier in the season my friend and i were talking about how the male stars had a harder task in the ballroom styles since they had to lead the dance, where the female stars were able to follow their pros lead in the dance - and i even remember previous commentary that at times felt like mark was almost carrying maura across the stage. not to discredit the work the women stars have put in at all or to say there isn’t an imbalance at times, but i do think it is more fluid than just the “women being rated harder”. i think certain dance styles will naturally favor some contestants and put others more on the spot. plus as the competition goes on the judges have mentioned several times that this is largely about improvement - and when some (such as maura) start very strong and others (like connor) start with much improvement needed, that will also impact how the judges are responding to them week after week. maura has improved but has had to hold her initial bar, where connor has been fighting for improvement each week with this week largely being considered a breakthrough week.

I feel like at times scores come from how they compare to themselves in previous weeks. Maura raised the bar for herself. Connor's bar was low. Derek said In Connor's dance the production and performance are important in Contemporary. In this single example I feel those two things had a lot to do with it.
I honestly go back and forth on my thoughts with male and females. For female stars they have the pro to lead them, but for the males the female pro is the one who has the attention.
