@bit_wonder: Dolphins Remember Names for Decades 🎧 Do dolphins have names? Each bottlenose dolphin invents its own signature whistle that works like a name, and dolphins still recognise a companion's whistle after 20 years apart. A calf borrows a whistle she hears and bends it into her own in her first year. The shape of the whistle carries the name, not the voice. When her mother copies it, she calls back. Twenty years later she hears her mother's whistle and turns toward it at once. Dolphin mothers even whistle higher when their calf is with them.
