![🚨Alberto Brignoli on Federico Valverde’s ShotPower during Real Madrid’s comeback against AEK Athens: 🗣️ Alberto Brignoli: I’ve faced powerful shots before. I’ve played against strikers who can strike a ball with incredible force, but what Valverde produced tonight was something else. The moment he prepared to shoot, I could see he was going to hit it with everything. I adjusted my position, set my feet and tried to anticipate the direction. But honestly, the speed of that ball was frightening. People sometimes think goalkeeping is simply about diving in the right direction. It’s not. You have to read the strike, judge the trajectory, calculate the distance and react before the ball reaches you. With Valverde, you barely have time to do any of that. His technique allows him to generate so much power without needing a long run-up. I saw the ball leave his foot, and my first reaction was to move towards it. But the ball was travelling with such force that even getting a hand to it would have been extremely difficult. What impressed me most was the timing. Real Madrid needed someone to take responsibility, and he didn’t hesitate. He didn’t look for another pass or wait for somebody else to make something happen. He simply decided to shoot, and suddenly the entire stadium was watching the ball fly towards the net. You can prepare for a player’s technique, but you cannot always prepare for the speed at which he executes it. The frustrating thing for a goalkeeper is that you can position yourself correctly, read the situation and still be beaten because the strike is simply too powerful and too precise. And this wasn’t just any goal. It was the winning moment in a game where Real Madrid had fought their way back from behind to complete a 3-2 comeback. Valverde didn’t just score a goal; he ended our hopes of taking something from this match. I’ll give him credit. Some players want to be remembered for their technique, others for their creativity, but Valverde has that ability to produce a moment that changes an entire game. When a football leaves a player’s boot with that much power, sometimes the goalkeeper isn’t beaten by his positioning. He’s beaten by the quality of the strike.
