@thedonjuilo: On Thursday 29 October 2026, 15-year-old Javits Frimpong was fatally shot in the Claremont area of the Bronx, New York. Javits was reportedly on his way to school when he was attacked shortly before 9:30 in the morning. He was taken to hospital, where he later died. Police are searching for three teenagers in connection with the shooting. As of 30 October, no arrests had been reported. But there is more to this story than the circumstances surrounding his death. Javits had moved from Ghana to the United States approximately a year ago to join his father, Thomas Frimpong, who wanted to give his son better opportunities and a brighter future. His father described him as a quiet, intelligent boy who dreamed of becoming a doctor. His father also revealed that Javits had previously spoken to him about experiencing bullying at school. According to his account, the school principal had contacted him days before the shooting following an altercation involving Javits and two other boys, who were subsequently suspended. Although no connection between these incidents and the shooting has been established, these revelations have raised further questions about what Javits had been experiencing. And I think we need to take a moment to appreciate the magnitude of what has happened here. A 15-year-old boy has lost his life. A father has lost his son. A family has lost somebody they can never replace. I think we need to have a much bigger and more uncomfortable conversation about violence against Black people, particularly Black children and young people. As a Black British person living in London, I might be thousands of miles away from the Bronx, but I don’t believe geographical distance should determine how much we care about what happens to Black communities elsewhere. There is a wider Black experience that connects us, even when our nationalities, cultures, accents and upbringings differ. I am tired of seeing stories about young Black people losing their lives and watching their deaths become another headline, another trending topic and eventually another story that disappears from public conversation. We have to be careful not to become desensitised to something that should never feel ordinary. Javits was only 15. He should have been concentrating on his education, discovering himself and thinking about his future. He wanted to become a doctor. Think about that. There was an entire future he had imagined for himself, opportunities he hadn’t experienced and milestones he hadn’t reached. His father moved his son across the world in the hope of giving him a better life. I cannot begin to imagine what it means to have that hope turn into such an unimaginable loss. And whilst we cannot claim to know the motive behind this particular shooting, we should not shy away from examining the wider issue of violence affecting Black communities. Whether we are talking about London, New York, Johannesburg or anywhere else, Black children deserve to grow up feeling safe. They deserve to go to school without fear. They deserve to have aspirations without their lives being cut short by violence. We need to talk about accountability, the environments young people are growing up in and the way bullying is addressed. We cannot continue treating the loss of young lives as something ordinary. Most importantly, we need to remember that these are children. They are not statistics or just another news report. They are somebody’s child, somebody’s sibling, somebody’s friend and somebody’s entire world. I want people to remember Javits Frimpong. Not simply because of how he died, but because of who he was and who he could have become. He deserved the opportunity to grow up. He deserved to become a doctor. He deserved a future. His life deserved so much more than this. Justice for Javits Frimpong.🕊️🤍💔 #GhanaDiaspora #justiceforjavits #BlackLivesMatter #fyp #StopBullying

Please continue sharing Javits’ story. The more people who know his name, the harder it becomes for his story to be forgotten. Justice for Javits. 🕊️

He didn’t do anything to deserve that. He deserved to be able to get a proper education without worrying about getting bullied, he deserves to be able to come home, see his family, and go to sleep comfortably. I hope they find his bullies and make them suffer.
