@stephvanlife1: Visited the animal shelter in San Antonio and walked some animals the other day. So far this year between 2500-3500 animals have been euthanized for severe medical issues, behavioral problems, or space available/capacity. So far this year around 3500-4500 have been adopted. On average each month 400-500 get adopted to new homes, 400-800 get reunited with their original owners, 700-950 get pulled to other rescue organizations, 100-180 get placed into foster homes, and 300-400 get euthanized. The numbers go up and down based on the month, but those are the averages - I can't begin to imagine the scale of it. The actual numbers each month are available on their website. Makes you feel good to stop in and walk a few. So many of them are so sweet. Right now there are currently 738 animals available for adoption (500 dogs, 219 cats, 9 pigs, 5 ducks, 4 guinea pigs, and 1 parakeet). Also 25 of them are listed on the urgent euthanasia list (if they aren't adopted by today/next day they may be put down). They update their urgent list at 2pm every day to reflect the pets listed for risk next day.
