I heard that quote the other day, and it stuck with me “Doubt kills way more ideas than failure” Most of us default to worst case scenarios. What if it doesn’t work? What if I lose money? What if people think I’m being reckless? And so we stay exactly where we are. At 26, I put all my savings into buying an old historic hotel. I sold the vehicle I loved just to have enough money to get through those first few months. Then I told my friends and family I was quitting my career as a registered nurse and moving across the country. People kept telling me, “You’re so brave.” But I never really felt brave. Because to me, the scarier option was… staying. I could’ve kept making a good income, but continued trading my nights, weekends, and holidays for a paycheck. Watching shift work slowly take my health, my energy, and the freedom to live life on my own terms. Or… I could take a calculated risk. Start investing in long-term assets instead of just earning an hourly wage. Start to create a life with more freedom and (eventually) more time for the people I love. Has it been easy? Not even close. It’s been way harder than my nursing career There have been many sleepless nights, unexpected large expenses, moments where I questioned everything, drives home in tears, and days I wondered if I’d made a huge mistake. But I’ve never once regretted changing direction. Because I love my problems now. Every problem I solve means I’ve grown. It means I’ve become more capable, more resilient, and built more character. Sometimes the biggest risk isn’t starting over. It’s spending years building a life you secretly wish you had the courage to leave.
