A former mayor in DeRidder has been found guilty in a case involving a 16-year-old boy that occurred while she was still in office. A jury on Tuesday convicted Misty Roberts, 43, on two felony charges: carnal knowledge of a juvenile (statutory rape) and indecent behavior with a minor. Jurors reached their decision in less than an hour after a seven-day trial. According to testimony, the incident happened during a July 2024 pool gathering at Roberts’ home during her second term as mayor. The teen told the court Roberts began flirting with him near the pool before later taking him upstairs, where the assault occurred. Because of his age, he could not legally consent. Family members, including Roberts’ children and nephew, testified they saw the two together that night but did not witness what happened afterward. During the trial, witnesses also said a driver from DoorDash delivered emergency contraception, Plan B, to the home later that evening. Prosecutors also presented messages in which Roberts allegedly asked family members to mislead investigators. Roberts’ ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, testified she admitted to him that the incident had happened. Roberts could face up to 17 years in prison if the maximum sentences are imposed. Her sentencing is currently scheduled for April 17. She resigned as mayor shortly after the investigation began and later posted $75,000 bond while awaiting trial.
