@dis_eddie: 🐥 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING A POULTRY FARM! 💰 Thinking of starting a poultry farm in Ghana? 🇬🇭 Before you invest your money, here are 10 important things you need to know! 👇🏽 1️⃣ START WITH A PLAN 📋 Know your goal, budget, target customers, and how many birds you want to raise. Start small and grow gradually. 2️⃣ CAPITAL IS MORE THAN BUYING CHICKS 💵 Budget for the poultry house, day-old chicks, feed, drinkers, feeders, heating equipment, medication, litter, water, and electricity. 3️⃣ FEED IS YOUR BIGGEST EXPENSE 🌽 Broilers consume a lot of feed as they grow. Calculate your feed requirements and costs before bringing in your chicks. 4️⃣ PREPARE YOUR BROODER BEFORE CHICKS ARRIVE 🔥 Clean and disinfect the house, prepare dry bedding, test your heat source, and ensure adequate ventilation. Be ready before delivery day. 5️⃣ TEMPERATURE CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR BROODING 🌡️ Baby chicks need the right warmth, especially during their first weeks. Monitor chick behaviour and adjust the temperature accordingly. 6️⃣ WATER MUST ALWAYS BE CLEAN 💧 Provide clean drinking water at all times. Keep drinkers clean and ensure every chick can easily reach them. 7️⃣ BIOSECURITY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE 🦠 Control visitors, clean equipment, keep rodents away, and prevent contact with other birds. Work with a qualified veterinary professional on vaccinations and disease prevention. 8️⃣ DON’T IGNORE RECORD-KEEPING 📊 Record feed consumption, mortality, medication, expenses, bird weights, and sales. You cannot properly measure profit if you don’t know your costs. 9️⃣ FIND CUSTOMERS BEFORE HARVEST TIME 🛒 Contact households, restaurants, chop bars, food vendors, and market women early. Decide whether you will sell live birds, dressed chickens, or both. 🔟 KNOW YOUR BREAK-EVEN POINT 📈 Calculate the total cost of raising your birds and the price you need to sell them for. Remember that revenue is not profit! 🐔 BONUS TIP: Don’t start with more birds than your budget, housing, and experience can support. I’m also building my own poultry farming journey with Eddie’s Poultry, learning one step at a time. Follow along as we grow! ❤️🐣 👇🏽 QUESTION: Which of these 10 things do you think beginners overlook the most?
