@stillbecomingmama: “What did you do all day?” I honestly couldn’t think of one thing. The dishwasher wasn’t run. The laundry wasn’t folded. Dinner wasn’t made. The house looked exactly the same as it did that morning. I was still wearing yesterday’s shirt, with two different milk stains on it. And my baby had slept for 40 minutes total. FORTY. MINUTES. But here’s what my day actually looked like: I fed a baby. Changed diapers. Burped. Rocked. Comforted. Tried to get the baby to sleep. Finally sat down, only to hear crying again. Started all over. I barely ate. My coffee went cold. I forgot what time it was. And I couldn’t remember the last time I’d gone to the bathroom without rushing. But somehow, when someone asked what I’d accomplished, I couldn’t come up with an answer. Because so much of motherhood is work that nobody sees. It’s the hours spent holding a baby. The constant feeding. The mental exhaustion of listening for every little sound. The endless soothing. The fact that you are someone’s entire world, even when you feel like you’re barely holding yours together. And just because the dishwasher is still full doesn’t mean you did nothing. You kept a tiny human alive, fed, safe, and loved. While running on almost no sleep. While your own body is still healing. While trying to figure out this completely new version of life. That is NOT nothing. So here’s your reminder, mama: The house doesn’t have to be clean to prove you had a productive day. The laundry doesn’t have to be folded. Dinner doesn’t have to be homemade. You don’t have to earn your rest by completing a to-do list. Sometimes keeping your baby alive IS the entire accomplishment. And it’s just invisible to people who slept. 💛 Two stains. Same shirt. Same exhausted mama. And you did enough today. ❤️ #postpartum #postpartummom #newmom #newbornmom #newmomlife
