They love buying shit and not opening it and then getting mad if you ever tried to use it. My mom has a closet full of electronics she’s never unwrapped.

When we bought our houses, yes, we were careful with our spending. But as the years and decades went by, our circumstances changed. Better pay, etc. So we were able to start surging.

The purchasing power was off the maps, even for an early GenX'er like myself. I get asked all the time, why I no longer play music and do gigs like I once had with my band. In 1987, my band of four made $900/gig. Some special occasions or when there was more travel time involved, I'd charge $1200 for a 4 hr gig. Generally it was $900. That's $225/band member. Today, my buddies are playing for $200 to play for 4 hrs as a solo act. There's your answer as to why I no longer play music professionally or as a hobby. No self respecting man is going to work for 1987 wages in 2026. Music is the only industry that hasn't increased it's value. Peasant pay. No thanks! I'll stay home. $225 purchasing power today is $545. No bar will pay a 4 peice band $2180. Yet, the bar will make a ton more money having a band in their establishment with $10/pint beer. In 1988, the same beer was $2. Every other sector's wages increased to over the years, but not for musicians. My $4.34 minimum wage in 1988 went a long ways. I had money left over come month end, unlike today.

Doesn’t matter what they bought. They worked for it, paid for it. All that matters
