Our cats have 2 1/2 cat showers. They have three scratching pads and they still claw on our furniture. I think it’s just once they do it they keep doing it. Good luck though.

They make clear plastic cover sheets to go on corners of furniture to prevent cats from scratching them. I use it on my couch and it’s great.

You should get cat deterrent spray. I got it for my cat from Amazon. It’s really cheap. I just spray it in the areas I don’t want him to scratch and then he doesn’t do it and if you do it consistently, then he won’t scratch it at all and like I have a bunch of scratch posts that he’ll use instead now.

I bought these and they actually work well! They make it slick so the cat doesn’t have anything to scratch, they are clear and you can hardly notice them. They are sticky and also come with tacks that have a corkscrew type tack part and they stay perfectly in place.

Cats hate citrus...we bought a bitter citrus spray at the Pet Store and sprayed the legs of the couch and placed rags sprayed with it behind the couch etc. I know you have a toddler so you may want to gate around the couch. Its not toxic but probably wouldn't want him to touch anything sprayed with it. Anyway, it works great and we didn't notice the scent at all.

I have a German Shepard that knows no scratching on furniture and will nose peck the cat away from the couch. So I guess just go ahead and get a dog 🤣

They in fact will still probably scratch it. I got a new set of couches and my cat has multiple scratchers and still loves the texture of couches better

They make double sided clear cat tape that I put on my couch and it stopped my cats from scratching and it doesn’t ruin the couch. After a few months I took it off and they don’t even try to scratch it anymore.

It takes a bit. 5 cats. Finally got the scratching of furniture to stop with 3 cat trees, 2 of the cardboard scratcher houses from target and 1 tower scratcher 😂
