I rejected those types of companies. Told them to pay me and they never responded. I’m not doing free work. If people keep doing those, it will just become even more common and with larger projects.

As someone who’s had to hire marketing roles before, the market is so saturated (100s of applicants per day) and sometimes the best way to see someone’s skills is through an assignment. With strategy or creative roles, oftentimes a resume and portfolio just doesn’t show enough 🤷♀️it sucks for sure but I understand why it’s common practice.

i work at expedia and the interviews were just conversations about my past experience and what i want from the role. good companies will not make you do free work.

I did this for a marketing interview AT MY LOCAL CHURCH! And they used my campaign, didn’t hire me (with marketing degree and MBA) and hired a graphic design student 🫠

Neeeeeeverrrrrrr eeeeeeveeeeerrrr do any interview assignments. Have them pay you as a contractor first before doing any work or have them hire you. It’s not worth them getting free labor out of you even if they say “We won’t use anything you come up with we promise.”

Just did 3 separate interviews and a project, then they asked me to do a 4th interview, a 2nd project, and take some test, and i said I’m happy to but can we discuss the salary before we go further (since it’s already taken up so much of both of our time) and they said they “couldn’t commit” to a number because they were still “evaluating my compatibility.” I said imma tell you right now I’m not compatible.
