Amira Fall :
How can anyone, for whatever reason, go as far as wanting to demolish a mosque, the house of God, simply to organize games, whatever they may be called, or to create a good public image?
This happened in my neighborhood, Medina, on Rue 11. This is a mosque that has stood for decades, where worshippers perform their five daily prayers and gather during the holy month of Ramadan for additional voluntary prayers (Nafila).
We are talking about a place of worship, a place of faith and gathering for an entire community. Moreover, there is simply a sidewalk separating the mosque from the road. What possible justification could there be for such a decision?
What makes this even more outrageous is that they chose to carry out this operation around 2 or 3 a.m. They eventually had to leave after local residents and others came forward to intervene and stop them. However, they threatened to return.
How can things go this far, especially in a country like Senegal, which is secular but has a predominantly Muslim population?
I am calling on the authorities, relevant officials, volunteers, influencers, and everyone involved in carrying the JOJ flame: you have all been alerted! Do not remain silent in the face of this situation. Whatever happens next, no one will be able to claim they were unaware.
