@unwomen: Every day, #peace is built by women mediating disputes, supporting survivors of sexual violence, protecting civilians, and rebuilding trust in communities torn apart by conflict. Defence can deter threats. But it cannot guarantee peace. That's why we need to invest in women. 🔗 See the full remarks by @unwomen Executive Director Sima Bahous at the @unitednations Security Council Open Debate on #WomenPeaceSecurity at the link in our bio. #ForAllWomenAndGirls

I am an Iraqi Arab woman asking for your help to speak about the conditions and disasters we women in Iraq are going through. We don't go out into the public eye, no one helps us, and we live in humiliation. Women here are married off as young as nine years old, and when women get divorced, it's to escape the mentality and backwardness of their husbands, but this burden falls on the children. Fathers abuse them to anger the mother, who is powerless to do anything about it, and no one helps her. Please speak about this issue🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻#الغاء_القانون_الجعفري

I beg you, help us! We are living in the hell of Iraq, an unlivable place. In the name of humanity, save us! Get us out of this oppression! Our government doesn't protect us. The religious leaders have imposed a law on us like in Afghanistan, and our government supports them.
