@browneyedgurl801: A Michigan grocery worker’s outburst at an Instagram prankster has turned into a six-figure outpouring of public support, with donations now far outpacing the $20,000 first reported. The employee, identified as Walt Zerod, was stocking frozen Red Baron pizzas in a Michigan store when a content creator approached him, asked the time, then played an audio clip simulating an Apple Pay transfer, pretending to take money from his phone. Zerod initially responded calmly. But after the prankster thanked him for the “donation,” he snapped. “You’re probably making money off of this, I can’t pay my godd*mn mortgage and I got four kids at home,” he said. “So not funny.” He added that he should have already been home for an hour and had to wake up at 5 a.m. to restock ten more stores. The video spread rapidly on X and Reddit, with viewers largely siding with Zerod over the prankster, whose Instagram account later went dark. A supporter named Luke Oakenshield, who did not previously know Zerod, launched a GoFundMe titled “Support a Harassed Red Baron Worker.” Donations climbed from roughly $20,000 to more than $77,000, then past $100,000, with some reports putting the total closer to $300,000 from thousands of contributors. Oakenshield later gave an update, saying Zerod was “absolutely blown away by how much people have cared over this,” and that GoFundMe was handling the transfer of funds directly to him. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson also publicized the case, saying he wanted to help Zerod pay his mortgage and buy his children Christmas presents. It remains unclear whether Zerod faced any workplace discipline over the confrontation.
