@mizlizardbrain: I love being the person that is the EASIEST interaction a customer-facing person has all day. It feels so good. #redbaron #customerservice #abuse #frontlineworkers

My daughter recently got yelled at while working at McDonald’s. She was 15 at the time, working drive thru and handing people their food. Some lady snapped over something small. My kiddo looked at her and yelled “ma’am I am a child! Stop yelling at me like I make the decisions.”

I’m glad Red Baron had his back but it bothers me he’s working so many hours & barely scraping by. Workers deserve better salary & benefits.

I'm in retail. A guy snapped his fingers at me and said "hey you, you come here, you put this in my cart now". I ignored him.

Twenty-odd years ago I bounced a check and I had to call ChexSystem to get it resolved. The woman who answered the phone started her spiel and it was obvious that she was just FED UP. Her tone was pre-emptively "I'm not taking crap from you today." I paused and then said something along the lines of "You hate your job. And I get it. But im not mad at you. I'm not going to be ugly to you. YOU didnt bounce my check. I did that. I'm in this situation because of a choice I made, not because of anything you did. I promise I will not yell at you." And she started crying. Because we treat customer service and working folks like absolute dog poop, and it is so often unwarranted.

You are 100% correct. It amazes (and disgusts me) how people treat others since Covid… and expect no consequences.

I used to work retail. A woman threw her armful of clothes at my face. My appearance was made fun of by an angry customer. I could go on.

I went to Walmart to get corned beef from the deli. The young man that asked to help me said Im sorry we are out. I said okay well thank you anyway I appreciate it. He started crying. I said kiddo what's wrong. He said thank you for being nice I have been yelled at alot today. I went to the Mgr and told her what a great young man he was. People stop being mean to folks because you're in a foul mood.

I had a cashier tell me their registers were down and I'd have to wait until it rebooted. I said "Okay. No worries." The way she unclenched! I stood there waiting all of 5 minutes to get rung out. 5. whole. minutes. And I'm glad to report I didn't die!

during covid, stores cut down to minimal staff to still be operational, companies realized that they could operate this way at a much cheaper rate, so they continued to run with minimum staff despite being out of the pandemic, and now customers treat us like we’re back at 100%, we haven’t been for 6 years

Imagine getting ready for a fight: your senses sharpen, your muscles tense up, your movements coordinated, adrenaline flowing, youre ready to throw down on anyone. But the fight never happens. Now do that for 8 or 9 or 10 hours a day, 5 or 6 or even 7 days in a row. That's modern retail work, and I've seen coworkers gets ptsd from it.

I work at Walmart. In electronics. People can literally stand RIGHT in front of an item and want me to walk to it and take it off the hook for them. I have been yelled at, threatened, “dismissed”.

I throw up everyday before work because of how anxious I am. They fight about everything, yell in my face about everything. Even if I offer to get them help from someone who can help them I get yelled at in my face. I’m so done. It’s made me truly hate humanity, I have almost 0 empathy for anyone anymore.

people during COVID were horrible, I was harassed for months after asking a customer to wear a mask because it was our states policy. one of my co workers asked someone to put one on they refused and he had to ask them to leave so they ran around the store knocking over everything they could and threw stuff around. it was honestly such a horrible time and we got no extra money ( we actually got less because sales were down)

When I was pregnant, I was working at a pet store. (keep in mind. I was like very, very visibly pregnant) And I had this like 80 year-old lady come in. She demanded that I carry her three bags of cat litter for her. (which we were told by our boss we had to do.) but we could do them one at a time. She told me I had to do them all at the same time. I told her I’d grab someone else. That wasn’t good enough. I told her I’d grab a cart so I could slide them in. That wasn’t good enough. Eventually, I just walked away from her and told someone else to go help her. I got written up.

a bit back i was at texas roadhouse and for the first time ever, i had to send my food back. my steak was way overcooked and that’s unfortunately not something you can save because i will usually just deal with whatever. the waiter looked pretty young and he looked so scared when we called him over to let him know i had a problem. he was so apologetic and i was just like “it’s not a big deal at all, it’s not like anyone did it on purpose” and he looked so relieved. having worked food and retail and now im still in a customer facing job, i will NEVER be unkind to someone helping me in one of those places

I said to the CSR, "oh. okay. Im going out of town. can you keep it here and ill come back in a couple days?" she immediately released her shoulders and said "no problem." i smiled said thanks and left. i realized she was bracing for me to scream at her
