@gettymuseum: 💀 Memento Mori—Latin for “remember you must die”—dates back to the ancient Romans, but blossomed as an artistic theme amid the famine, plague, and war of the Middle Ages. These eerie artworks use skulls, hourglasses, and other symbols to whisper a chilling truth: life is fleeting. 🪦 By meditating on the impermanence of life, Memento Mori invites viewers to better appreciate and make the most of living. Does that sound a bit like… #mindfulness? 🧘 Take a moment(o), find a comfortable seat, and embrace macabre mindfulness with Getty Gallery Education Specialist Liz. 🕯️ Enjoy your meditations with a side of mortality? Join us in person at the Getty Center for a Memento Mori gallery tour! 🖼️ #MementoMori #InMyFeelings #Art
