@tutorjerry: CHEMICAL ENGINEERING? THESE ARE THE COURSES YOU SHOULD BE PREPARING FOR! As a second-year Chemical Engineering student, you are gradually moving beyond the general engineering foundation into the principles that explain how industrial processes work. Think about how crude oil is refined, how raw materials are converted into useful products, how heat is transferred in processing plants, and how chemical processes are controlled. These are the kinds of engineering problems your training is preparing you to understand. But first, let's look at your 200-level courses. According to the NUC Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), the following courses are listed for 200-level Chemical Engineering: GENERAL AND ENGINEERING FOUNDATION COURSES 1. GST 212 – Philosophy, Logic and Human Existence 2. ENT 211 – Entrepreneurship and Innovation 3. GET 204 – Students Workshop Experience 4. GET 205 – Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics 5. GET 206 – Fundamentals of Thermodynamics 6. GET 209 – Engineering Mathematics I 7. GET 210 – Engineering Mathematics II 8. GET 211 – Computing and Software Engineering CHEMICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAMME COURSES 9. TCH 201 – Chemical Engineering Fundamentals 10. TCH 202 – Material Science (Elective) 11. TCH 206 – Statistics for Chemical Engineers 12. GET 299 – SIWES I: Students Work Experience Scheme NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT WHY THESE COURSES MATTER. 1. Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics You will study how fluids behave at rest and in motion. This is important when dealing with pumps, pipelines, pressure, flow rates and fluid transportation in processing plants. 2. Fundamentals of Thermodynamics This introduces you to energy, heat, work and the laws governing energy transformations. These principles are essential in understanding industrial processes. 3. Engineering Mathematics I & II Do not underestimate these courses. Mathematics provides the tools you will need to solve engineering problems, develop models and analyse processes. 4. Chemical Engineering Fundamentals This is where you begin building a stronger understanding of the principles that distinguish Chemical Engineering from other engineering disciplines. 5. Statistics for Chemical Engineers Engineering decisions require data. You need statistical methods to analyse results, interpret experimental data and make informed decisions. A WORD TO EVERY 200L CHEMICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT: Don't wait until examination week before you start taking these courses seriously. Understand the principles. Practise the calculations. Connect what you learn in the classroom to real industrial applications. At Tutor Jerry Academy, we have started our Engineering Fluid Mechanics Complete Course, and our first lecture is already available on YouTube. Search Tutor Jerry Academy on YouTube and subscribe.
