It’s literally just a “no true scotsman” fallacy repeated ad nauseam. It becomes a competition every single time. “I been here 10 years” “well i was born in staten island” “that’s not really the city, i was born in queens” “nah you not a real new yorker unless your grandparents born here”. Like there’s somehow some intrinsic quality to a new yorker that grants their voice more power to say what is and what isn’t good for the city. We all know who the problem is and it isn’t a clean divide between transplants and people born here.

big fan but id disagree slightly. yes the landlord chooses the rent but the transplant also chooses the rent. nobody forced them to sign the lease. they looked at the price and said they are willing to pay. (im not from New York so I have no dog in this fight, love ur content)
