Mos built part of his verse around Brooklyn street names, grouping them by their starting letters. He moved through A, B and C before bringing it back to Bedford-Stuyvesant, the neighborhood where he grew up. There’s a whole piece of Brooklyn geography inside those bars. He also had history with the man behind the decks. Premier produced “Mathematics” on Mos Def’s “Black on Both Sides,” giving the two another connection beyond this cypher.
