I don’t like sob stories but I LOVE backstory. It makes the character have more depth than just a “villain”. It makes them an antagonist instead and I love when characters become complex

hot take: if the villain doesn’t change for the better by the end of the movie, they shouldn’t get a sob story. It distorts the reality of “bad” people and can unknowingly put the idea that a sad past always leaves the person broken and “bad.”

Ursula does have a somewhat sad story in the musical it explains her story and how she was the heir and that her sisters got more love from their father and after she got a brother (Triton) he became the heir
