@nerdsip_merica: The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose grew from an eight-room farmhouse into a sprawling Victorian of about 160 rooms over nearly four decades. The popular legend says Sarah Winchester believed the spirits of people killed by Winchester rifles demanded she never stop building. Historians found no evidence of nightly seances, and her letters mention dismissing all the workmen to rest through a winter. Much of the strangeness has a plainer cause: the 1906 earthquake brought down a seven-story tower and damaged upper floors, and she closed off sections instead of rebuilding them. The house is a California Historical Landmark and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974. The panorama is an illustration, not a photo. Which odd feature would you most want to see in person: the stairs into the ceiling or the door to nowhere?
