My thought is, if the GOP loses Texas AND South Carolina, then Lindsey Graham’s own words about trump destroying the party will come to fruition. It also means in 2028, the GOP will have to campaign in Texas, or risk a total electoral lockout from the White House for the foreseeable future. With the popular vote compact reaching a majority of states and a loss in Texas, the GOP loses easy routes to federal offices.

I think you’re most likely right about this, but part of me keeps thinking that with his approval ratings so low they’re just keeping him to the states where he can do the least damage. Like the people running campaigns and even the relatively competent members of his staff (if any of those are left) would rather he stayed home and cleaned up (or at least mitigated) the giant dumps he keeps taking on the world, but they know they have to humor him and let him get out there and do rallies or he’s gonna throw a hissy fit and make things even worse for them in some unimaginable way.
