My mom grew up writing with fountain pens in Germany and I know it sounds weird but she’d run the top under running water and blow the ink out of it to clean it.

I would avoid leaving them overnight. That's def crazy tho I'm never seen that happen. The red was prob a sign of a reaction with the metal water and ink

hi! in case you will experience any leaking, the nib might be a bit too big and you might need a smaller size by a number

you can make a pen flush by adding a little bit of dish soap to water (Goulet pens taught me this one! and if you have any questions, they have a YT channel that might answer them, or you can email them.)

i restore a lot of old fountain pens (like 60s and 70s) and I have lots of opinions and advice, so here goes. based on the way that nib broke, there's 2 potential causes. 1) the metal wasn't sealed properly 2) the ink drying on the nib corroded the coating. I'd say the ink is the more likely cause. about your replacement nib: make sure to push the nib and feed as far down as it will go or it may leak. feeds usually take a few hours to fully saturate with ink so I'd check the pen again in a day before ruling it a success or failure. as for needing a fountain pen flush: you really don't. I remove DECADES of dried ink with water and patience. you can use warm or hot water to speed up the process. if you're trying to get ink out of the cap, don't soak it. place it upright in a shot glass and use your syringe to fill it with some warm water. after a few minutes, you can use your finger as a stopper and shake the cap to agitate the ink out. I do it until the water runs clear. I find soaking feeds upright in shot glasses helps the ink flow out rather than pooling because most dyes in ink are heavier than water.
