@newyorkersofficial: 💔😢 A vigil was held today for 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, who was shot and killed yesterday morning while walking to school near his home in the Bronx. Frimpong was shot in the stomach near East 171st Street and Third Avenue and later died at St. Barnabas Hospital. His father described him as a quiet, innocent boy and said he had been experiencing bullying at school. He believes the bullying may have played a role in his son’s death, though police have not confirmed a motive. The NYPD is searching for three teenage suspects. No arrests have been announced.

Growing up in Memphis, I was bullied by African Americans just for being African. They looked down on us because our parents had less education, calling us 'African booty scratchers.' But things changed. Today, we are thriving in our own home, while most of those bullies are now dead or in jail, trapped by the very environment they couldn't escape. Ridiculous.
