@tiantresses: NEW GROWTH and LOOSE HAIR outside your locs are NOT the same thing!! 😭👏🏽 And YES, there’s a difference! Let me educate y’all real quick because I see these two getting confused ALL the time! 👇🏽 🌱 NEW GROWTH: This is the fresh hair growing directly from your scalp! It hasn’t been incorporated into your loc yet, which is why your roots may look puffy, frizzy, or less defined between maintenance appointments. This is completely NORMAL and a sign that your hair is growing! 🌱 LOOSE HAIR OUTSIDE YOUR LOCS: These are strands along the length of your locs that are no longer fully incorporated into the loc structure. This can happen due to friction, manipulation, hair texture, incomplete locking, or strands gradually working their way out. NOW HERE’S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING! 👀 New growth is typically addressed during your regular retwist, while loose hair along the body of your locs may require a DIFFERENT maintenance technique, such as carefully crocheting the strands back into the loc when appropriate. And PLEASE understand that not every little frizzy strand needs to be crocheted! 😭 Excessive manipulation can cause unnecessary damage. THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY? A retwist maintains your roots. It does NOT automatically repair loose hair throughout the length of your locs! Knowing the difference helps you understand what your locs actually need instead of assuming every maintenance concern can be fixed with a retwist! 😂💕 Healthy locs start with EDUCATION, not just a fresh style! ✨ 📚Bookings open for new/existing clients Schedule your appointment today by clicking the link in my bio. 📱 Please feel free to DM or Text (904) 410-2100 for inquiries 📍Jacksonville, FL #tiantresses #jacksonvilleloctician #locs #starterlocs #locstyles
