🏞️Texas trails are breathtakingly beautiful, but they can turn dangerous fast if you aren't prepared. Extreme summer heat brings unique challenges to hitting the trails. As part of my series with @extremeweathersurvivors, I’m sharing 3 of my favorite Texas hikes with essential safety tips. 1️⃣Enchanted Rock Summit Trail (Fredericksburg) A short but purely vertical march up a massive pink granite dome. Because it is completely unshaded, I highly recommend arriving around sunrise to beat the heat. Bring plenty of water and take frequent breaks if you need to, climbing this dome is almost the equivalent of walking up a 30-to-40-story building! 2️⃣Big Bend National Park (West Texas) While we would have loved to trek one of the park's most popular routes, Santa Elena Canyon, we visited in August and strictly knew our limits. We stayed safe by exploring early in the morning, stopping at scenic overlooks, and sticking close to the base of the trail. When you go, never forget to pack a wide-brimmed hat and plenty of sunscreen. 3️⃣Palo Duro Canyon State Park (Canyon) The Lighthouse Trail is roughly a 6-mile round trip that finishes with a fun rock scramble at the end. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and pack electrolytes alongside your salty snacks. When exploring the Lone Star State, it is incredibly important to know the warning signs of heatstroke and extreme dehydration. Stay safe out there, Texas! #texashillcountry #bigbend #bigbendnationalpark #texascheck #texasweather
