@mackenzie.atelier: 📍 Liberty Island · New York City 🇺🇸 🗽 After the American Civil War, French thinker Édouard de Laboulaye envisioned a monument celebrating freedom and friendship between France and America. Sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi brought that dream to life. On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was officially unveiled in New York Harbor. 🤝 1885 — The Power of Ordinary People Believe it or not, this world-famous monument almost remained unfinished. France built the statue, but America struggled to fund its pedestal. Newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer launched a fundraising campaign, inspiring over 120,000 people to donate more than $100,000. Workers, families, and children contributed whatever they could — sometimes just a few cents. Together, ordinary people helped build an extraordinary monument. 🎨 A Statue Transformed by Time Lady Liberty wasn’t always green! Her copper exterior was originally reddish-brown, gradually developing its iconic green patina over time. 🕊️ A Symbol of Hope Her torch represents enlightenment, while the broken chains at her feet symbolize freedom from oppression. For millions of immigrants arriving in America, she became a symbol of hope and new beginnings. ❤️ More Than a Landmark Today, Lady Liberty reminds us that history isn’t shaped only by powerful people. Sometimes, the greatest things are built through the kindness and courage of ordinary people. ✨ Freedom belongs to everyone. History is shaped by all of us. — Mackenzie #StatueOfLiberty #NewYorkCity #HistoryTok #TravelTok #AmericanHistory
