if she's bringing it up publicly, he should address it publicly

I had something similar happen to me. My husband is the baby of the family and spent 10 years in the army. We got married after he got out and had a baby girl. However my husbands sister and her daughter said they were entitled to my husbands dog tags. I quickly corrected them. Those are HIS CHILD’S not anyone else’s.

He's 30. Why are they even talking about inheriting the business? This cannot be real.

You are 30. You have 50+ years to troll them before they find out you have left it to the dog's home. Play the long game.

Dude am I the only one who has never even thought about potential inheritance from any of my family? I hear stories about this all the time but is this as common as it seems?

I’m single and no kids. No one gets to determine who gets anything when I’m gone but me.

I’d be like “where did you get the idea that this is happening since I never said it.”

And what happens if OP has kids of his own is the sister going to try and take it from them. My advice would be to put it in a will now what you want to happen with the business and don’t tell anyone what you’re doing.

Honestly I think the private convo has left the building and a public nope that’s not happening and I don’t know where how or what you thought that was happening but it’s not. I will either train my own kids to run it or I’m selling it for my retirement. None of that includes you or your children!

I don't get why people always talk about inheritance and disowning. Like that is so crazy. Like they want you to drop dead or something

Absolutely nta! It is HIS business he is the one who gets to decide what to do with it. Sister and Nephew need to step way back.

My sister was furious when my brother updated his life insurance policy and didn’t include her 4 kids, only my son. They hadn’t spoken in years, and he set that up when I was a single mom. Plus, why do you want our brother to die and his wife get less money for YOUR kids?

Sometimes you just need to say it straight, as it is, in front of everyone, so there’s no misunderstanding.

Those kind of people private conversations don't work, I'd want the whole family to know this is not happening so she can't spin stories.

I watch enough dateline, you need to be clear about who inherits.

My husband cousin that worked at my husband company. Age difference about 20 years. Said to me when my husband dies that he would run the company. I said that there is a little problem with that statement. He asked why I said because the business will come to me and im selling it so that all our children will get their inheritance. He was not happy with that and asked my husband straight away what the deal was. My husband knows about my intentions and said that im the one that inheriting the company, and that im selling it as soon as possible because off our children. His cousin didn't like that now he is not working for us anymore.
