The side of parenting a child with autism that no one sees. It’s years of fighting with insurance companies. Countless hours spent on the phone, being transferred from person to person, only to be told to “keep waiting.” Meanwhile, my daughter receives inconsistent care, and every interruption comes with the risk of regression. It feels like one step forward and ten steps back. The toll this has taken on both of us is something I can’t even put into words. It shouldn’t be this hard. Families shouldn’t have to run themselves into the ground just to get their children the services they need. We shouldn’t have to beg for someone to listen. The world wasn’t built with her in mind, but she was absolutely made for this world. She deserves every opportunity to thrive. And as her mom, I will never stop fighting for her. I don’t care how many phone calls I have to make, how many appeals I have to file, or how many doors I have to knock on.
