This senior gentleman arrived at Broward County Animal Care as a stray in heartbreaking condition. He is severely emaciated, with prominent ribs, significant muscle loss, and a body condition score documented as low as 1/9. His body also bears multiple old scars and scabbing around his elbows, legs, and ears, suggesting he has endured difficult circumstances. Despite his physical condition, this sweet boy has shown a friendly and affectionate side. He is a senior, intact male who is severely underweight and in need of veterinary evaluation. He is heartworm negative, easy to leash, and generally walks well, although he pulls slightly. He has displayed a loose body posture and wagging tail and shows interest in other dogs during walks. When returning to his kennel, he has demonstrated stress-related behaviors, including mounting and attempts to escape. He is currently receiving trazodone and gabapentin to help manage kennel-related stress. Clear nasal discharge has also been noted and is being monitored. This boy needs more than a kennel. He needs a chance to recover. His fragile physical condition and the stress of the shelter environment make a stable, supportive placement especially important. He would benefit from an experienced rescue organization that can provide appropriate veterinary care, nutritional rehabilitation, and a calm environment where he can regain his strength. After everything his body appears to have endured, he deserves comfort, compassion, and an opportunity to experience a better life. We are reaching out to our rescue partners in hopes of finding this senior boy the care and second chance he deserves! Let’s give this gentleman a chance to heal and enjoy his golden years.
