In elementary school, all of us, standing in line. We saw the nurses and their 6uns making our classmates cry, sob, some screamed. None of us knew what was going on. This massive scab caught on your clothes for weeks.

Its the small pox vaccine scar. Later years dont have it because it was eradicated when we all were vaccinated. 1966 here. Im assuming 67-68 is when it was no longer necessary

I have one and I remember getting the shot. it was not an ordinary needle it was around needle cage that held a number of needles. the idea was for the vaccine which was inserted in the middle be scratched into the upper layers of the arm. it was very effective and actually a blessing because smallpox cost many, many lives. I am very proud to be wearing that scar and I am 77 years old. but the scar told the world that I was safe from smallpox. that was a real victory.

The vaccine that leaves that characteristic round mark on the arm (usually the right one) is the BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) vaccine, which protects against severe forms of tuberculosis, primarily tuberculous meningitis.
1. Intradermal administration: It is not injected into the muscle like most vaccines, but rather just beneath the superficial layer of the skin.
2. Natural local reaction: A few weeks after administration (given to newborns), a small bump or pustule forms, which then ulcerates slightly and develops a scab; as it heals, it leaves that typical, indented, lifelong mark.
(Note: In individuals born before the 1970s, there may also be another similar scar—often slightly larger or fan-shaped, or appearing as a cluster of several puncture marks—which corresponds to the smallpox vaccine.)
