A bad nightโ€™s sleep in my 40s feels very different from a bad night in my 20s. And as we move towards perimenopause, changing hormones, night sweats and temperature changes can make getting to sleep and staying asleep more difficult. In this video, Iโ€™m sharing the changes Iโ€™ve made to my own evening routine. My phone stays out of the bedroom. I lower the lighting, read to wind down and keep the room at a comfortable temperature. Light is one of the signals your brain uses to set your body clock. Bright evening light can delay the rise in melatonin that helps signal itโ€™s night-time. Thatโ€™s why I pay attention to the lighting around me before bed. I personally use a red globe and red-tinted glasses while reading on my Kindle. Theyโ€™re part of my routine, rather than something everyone needs to buy. If I get up during the night, I use a small bathroom light instead of switching on bright overhead lights. And if I wake, I try to stay calm. Getting frustrated and worrying about tomorrow can leave me feeling even more awake. I also share the magnesium I use as part of my evening routine. These changes have helped me, but persistent sleep problems deserve a closer look, especially if youโ€™re also experiencing hot flushes, snoring or significant daytime tiredness. If sleep has changed as youโ€™ve moved into perimenopause, start with a free discovery call with Toni, our naturopath with a focus on perimenopause, thyroid health and weight resistance. Liverpool, Sydney and Australia wide via Zoom. #PerimenopauseSleep #SleepInYour40s #Perimenopause #WomensHealth #NourishingApothecary
