@ryno25917: Halloween Ends 2022 Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak, Rohan Campbell, Will Patton, Kyle Richards, James Jude Courtney Directed by David Gordon Green 111 Minutes Summary: Years after a freak accident, Corey Cunningham is labeled an outcast by the town of Haddonfield and enters a relationship with Laurie’s granddaughter, Allyson. He later crosses paths with Michael Myers, who vanished years after his massacre, and teams up with him for another Halloween rampage. Tl; Dr Review: While the movie obviously juggles two different ideas and tries to force them into one movie, Halloween Ends is given credit for doing something different rather than repeating the same formula. Interesting themes are raised and most of the performances are good here in this divisive entry. Full Review: Halloween Ends is such a divisive entry, even two years after its release. It’s a flawed movie that diverts from the usual formula, and tries to juggle two different storylines which make both ideas feel a tad shoehorned. Many of the sequels in this franchise offer the same formula, so credit is given here for trying something different, even if it wasn’t perfect. The Michael and Corey storylines compete with each other and it’s when they merge, the movie becomes messy. The two ideas are trying to go down two different paths and would have been better as their own individual movies. The movie is at its best when these two storylines are separate. Instead of mostly focusing on Michael Myers, the film raises a couple of interesting themes. Evil, here, is portrayed as an infection of sorts(though fails to state if it’s metaphoric or not) and how society always finds a new boogeyman. Both are interesting and somewhat relevant themes, but also should have been brought up in the previous two entries as these themes deserved to be fully fleshed out to their potential. The new character of Corey Cunningham is front and center here, as is his descent. Rohan Campbell does a good job here, as starting out as the nerdy, shy guy into a ruthless villain. Though, it would have been better had the character been introduced either in Halloween(2018) or Halloween Kills as his arc feels rushed and jarring. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode once again, giving us something different as well. A version of the character that is largely moving on. It’s interesting to see this take on the character as most versions of this character are rather broken. James Jude Courtney gives another great performance as Michael, this time as a more weathered version of the character. He has less time to shine than he did in Halloween Kills, but Courtney makes the most of what he is given. As always, the music score by John Carpenter, and his son Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, is great. In fact, out of this trilogy, this is the best musical score as it has a sinister, almost 80s like sound to it. It harkens back to the Halloween sequels of the 80s. Halloween Ends is a divisive movie, that will still be divisive 40+ years from now. It’s far from perfect, as the storyline is messy, but thanks to some interesting ideas and good performances, it’s an entertaining mess. Out of this lengthy franchise, it’s not the best, but not the worst. Tomorrow, I will rank the entire franchise, including the Halloween 6 Producer’s Cut, worst to best, so stay turned for that! 7 out of 10 Ryan A. #Halloween #HalloweenEnds #horror #horrortok #horrormovies
