@crimemurdermayhem: The Amityville Horror became one of the most famous horror stories ever told, but the real story began with the DeFeo family. Six family members lost their lives inside 112 Ocean Avenue in 1974, and despite Ronald DeFeo Jr.’s conviction, his changing accounts left questions about his motive. Before the haunting claims and Hollywood adaptations, there were real people whose lives were lost. 🕯️ #TheAmityvilleHorror #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeCommunity #TrueCrimeStorytime #horrormovies

Crime Files USA :

Separating the Amityville movies from the real DeFeo tragedy in New York is so important — the true crime behind the legend is far sadder than any horror story.

zero crime files :

I grew up thinking Amityville was just a haunted house movie, so hearing you start with the DeFeo family instead of the haunting really reframes it for me. The real crime underneath is so much darker than the film version.
