save this for later >>> 15 things I would do if I wanted to become a photographer but had no idea where to start 📸 1️⃣ Start with the camera you already have. You don’t need an expensive camera to become a photographer. Your phone or an old digital camera is enough to start learning how to see. 2️⃣ Learn the exposure triangle. Understand how ISO, aperture and shutter speed work together. Once you know how to control them, you’ll have much more creative freedom. 3️⃣ Master natural light. Learn how light changes throughout the day and how it affects your subject. Experiment with direct sunlight, shadows, window light and reflectors before investing in expensive equipment. 4️⃣ Study composition. Pay attention to framing, perspective, leading lines and negative space. Sometimes moving a few steps completely transforms an image. 5️⃣ Take photos of EVERYTHING. Your friends, your surroundings, strangers (with their permission), everyday moments. The more you shoot, the more you’ll understand what interests you. 6️⃣ Study photographers you admire. Don’t just scroll past their work. Ask yourself WHY you like their images: the lighting, colors, composition, emotions or storytelling. 7️⃣ Look for inspiration outside photography. Watch films, visit museums, read books, listen to music and pay attention to the world around you. Your creative vision develops through everything you experience. 8️⃣ Learn basic editing. Start with Lightroom or another editing program and understand exposure, contrast, colors and white balance. Don’t rely on presets before learning what the adjustments actually do. 9️⃣ Start photographing people. Ask friends to model for you and practice directing them. Learning how to make people feel comfortable in front of your camera is just as important as knowing how to use it. 🔟 Connect with other creatives. Reach out to models, makeup artists, stylists and designers who are also starting out.
