@stephaniechukwuma1: Did you know there's now a pill that can help PREVENT COVID after someone in your home tests positive? It's called XOCOVA (ensitrelvir). The FDA approved it in May — the first oral medicine for post-exposure prevention, for adults and teens 12 and older who have been in contact with someone who has COVID. In the major study behind the approval, it lowered the risk of developing symptomatic COVID by 67%. How it works: five days of tablets, started after the exposure and before symptoms. That's different from Paxlovid, which treats people who are already sick. A few honest notes from me: this is prevention, not treatment. Timing matters, so don't sit on it — talk to a provider soon after an exposure. The most common side effects in the study were headache, diarrhea, and cough. Prevention is still healthcare. Protect your household before the fever ever starts. Questions about testing or a recent exposure? Findley Medical Clinic — 414.246.7550. — Dr. Stephanie Chukwuma
