but why would a loving god even allow this. i never understood this story of the bible testing faith with a bet with your enemy to prove a point while an innocent man Job suffered tremendously for no reason.

A woman can make or break a man. Satan went after Eve, not Adam. Satan was able to deceive Eve, but Eve got Adam to knowingly disobey. Satan knew this and that's why He didn't go after Job's wife. When the conversation was going on between God and Satan, Satan said he will curse God. Job's wife told Job to curse God and die. She didn't just make that up on her own
