My birdbrain ex-husband sat in couples counseling and had so little insight to the problems that he would just mimic my answers. I finally had to tell the counselor to start asking him the questions first and then he just sat there like a lump with nothing to say.

Women don’t leave men who are unemployed because they have patriarchal views. Men have disproportionately marginalized women from accessing resources for millennia, and still earn more than women, it’s literally part of how the patriarchy operates on men and women, and not a result or outcome of women’s’ patriarchal views. It stems from the understanding that women desire resources from an evolutionary standpoint as they are much more invested in the propagation of offspring. Which is why women select and literally select for the best possible traits in the fittest mates and that includes resources to care for offspring. Men understood this and kept women oppressed and unable to independently access resources as one of many violent ways to force mating.

I suggested counseling. she said no. I said I was leaving. she suggested counseling. I said no. I stayed longer than I should have, because leaving is expensive. I bet the reason fewer men file for divorce is financial.
