2,545 people died in Paris from heat related deaths. Definitely bad but not what they are claiming

A lot of countries don’t have AC bc there meant to be in a temperate climate, not heat waves. Ireland has a temperate climate but we hit nearly 30 over the summer, very unusual & bloody hard to sleep with it ! Very little AC in this country .

“It’s bad for the environment.” Yes. It’s the environment that’s killing us. If we aren’t going to cull other major contributors to rising temps, why does our morality kick in at the concept of using AC? Especially when the heat causes more immediate suffering and death.

4 weeks of 100 F (37.7 C) in my home town. Hell ya I ran my AC or I’d be dead!

Apparently the French (and other Europeans) would rather see people die than change the appearance of a historic building by adding A/C.

Broad definition: around 8000. If excluding gang violence, domestic violence, then it’s 1000-2000.

Not only were they telling British ppl to do all those things, they did it from an overly-lit stage, being broadcast nationally by the biggest consumer of electricity in the UK

The mindset of “we’ve always lived like this, no need to change it now” is a complete lie. In Medieval times the homes had MUCH better thermal regulation than modern European houses. I’m not kidding when I say Medieval Europeans had way better homes when it comes to surviving a heatwave. The thermal mass of a thatch and mud cottage kept a medieval peasant cool even in the middle of the summer. No one was sweating through the night on the verge of dying from heat. That’s a modern problem due to modern building practices. Modern Europeans are quite literally killing themselves for no reason, and living worse than their ancestors did during the summer. So fucking dumb 😭

I used to put my shirts in the wash and put them on when I lived in the UK 9 months pregnant during June. I now refuse to visit in summer. only winter family visits for us

The thing is, the businesses are the ones doing most of the polluting. Making the people suffer while the businesses continue to profit is so backward.

I grew up in Florida and now live in Switzerland. It was hell. We filled our bathtub with cold water which helped a lot and closed every shutter so it was pitch black inside but we had no energy to work and it wasn't easy to sleep. I bought a portable a/c and it was worth every single penny and my Swiss husband agreed. Ambulance was also running way more than normal on our street which was heartbreaking.

doesn’t france define heat deaths differently from the US? If a stat sounds wild there’s usually a reason

As a brit, I will say the cost to install AC is prohibitive and 90% of our windows simply don't work with window units. That said, i do not regret paying that up front cost at all. I will hide in my air conditioned home office all summer if I have to 😂
