@raisedeyebrowclub: In 1727, the emperor of China ordered a tiger hood for his dog. Silk, softly lined, for his dog Zaohua, and a qilin hood for his dog Baifu, whose name means "A Hundred Blessings." His workshops wrote it down, and the ledger is still kept in Beijing. In March the hoods came back with more orders: ears for the tiger, eyes and a tongue for the qilin. A painting of a little dog had gone back too: "Good, but the fur on its tail is too short." And one qilin hood was "too big, and very stiff as well." "Make another," the order said. "Smaller. With soft cotton padding." Sources: Yang Naiji, 1984; Hou Haozhi, 2013; Ma Zimu, 2015. #History #weirdhistory #china #dogs #historytok
