I swear I was trying too. 😂 Although, looking back, I definitely needed to track back and cover that space. Sometimes your mind just slips for a second and you find yourself standing in no man's land while your man is running completely free into space. And to me, that's one of the most annoying feelings in football. Imagine being a little kid playing monkey in the middle with your older brothers and never being able to get the ball. That's exactly what it feels like. I know I was ball watching and didn't close down the player on the ball initially, but somehow, in the moment, I convinced myself I was doing enough to stop the attack. Until I wasn't. And the funny thing is, when I'm attacking, this is literally one of my favorite things to do. Draw a defender in, pass the ball, and exploit the space they've left behind. So when someone does it to me... I feel like I've just lost at my own game. 😂 And when it ends up leading to a goal? Absolutely demoralizing. But I think there's something worth recognizing here. Some players genuinely go through this exact thought process in their heads, which is why they might look like they're not trying, even when they're convinced they're doing enough. After watching this play back, I realized that while I obviously feel terrible when it happens to me, I probably shouldn't be so quick to assume someone else simply isn't trying when they make the same mistake. I did cost my team the first goal of the game, and there's no point making excuses for it. All you can really do is own up to it, apologize, and try to make up for your mistake by helping the team in whatever way you can. Which, thankfully, I managed to do 7 times this game. 😂 👉Don’t forget to FOLLOW for more soccer/football/footy clips and join the community!
