@foodiemamaofthesouthbay: 🚂 A little South Bay history that I never knew existed! I stopped to watch a train making a lumber delivery to Crenshaw Lumber in Gardena, and somehow ended up going down a whole railroad history rabbit hole. 😂 These are the Torrance Industrial Lead tracks, and they're much more than just a set of railroad tracks running through our neighborhoods. Here's what I found fascinating: • This rail line dates back to 1903! • It was originally part of the Los Angeles Inter-Urban Electric Railway and even carried Pacific Electric passenger service. • Today, it's a freight route connecting local industrial businesses to the larger rail network. • Crenshaw Lumber, established in 1949, is one of the businesses served by this line. • Other businesses along the route have included Jones Chemical and US Gypsum. I know my page is usually filled with food, coffee and family adventures, but I LOVE stumbling across little pieces of local history like this. Sometimes the most interesting things are happening right in our own backyard, and we don't even realize it. Are there any other South Bay history lovers out there? Because apparently I've found another thing to geek out about! 😂 #southbayla #torrance #gardena #losangeleshistory #trainhistory

I got stuck once on my way to Gardena to pick up my mother in law to take her to chemotherapy. We were late. She knew all about the train.

All train tracks in the US are privately owned by the rail company. That's why passenger rail is sucks so bad in the US. Because the railway companies prioritize Freight over Passenger trains.
