The first part is false. If you stay, you do not lose you. You lose a version of you that you've outgrown. It's like passing 8th grade, but to frightened of High School to go. Unknowns, new school, new kids, teachers, friends etc... Despite that, you just can't stay in the 8th grade your whole life.
