I’ve always paid the bill—always; it’s like an unwritten rule. My wife has always appreciated it and has never suggested we just pay the "bare minimum", never.

Most men have to pay. Otherwise, they would be alone. I have been treated to many fine dining experiences paid by women, including Nobu NYC a few weeks ago where two women picked up 100% of the bill. Could I have paid? Easily, but why would I prevent them for showing their appreciation of me?
