@ej.1728: Check out @Bråñdøñ🦚 video on sundown towns in the Bronx if you want a rabbit hole. I think we need to stop hiding the frustration and start to have these uncomfortable conversation with our communities #fyp #breakingnews #xenophobia #newyork #youth
The African immigrant experience is so complex because while experiencing societal racism, we also experience xenophobia from our own black community. I hope Javits’ family are able to find healing and justice through this 🥲

Xenophobia is in New York BADDD, which shocks me bc they’re the most culturally diverse city in the US. Like ????

That is so evil to ask him how he is feeling. She knew exactly how he was feeling.

We Africans aren’t racist we are good and loving people especially we Ghanaians 🇬🇭but I don’t understand the hate towards us Africans. It’s soo unfair and painful and it’s needs to be stopped because we humans too.

I hate that they keep asking the dad “how are you feeling” - the man just lost his son that he brought to the U.S. for a better life, like how else would you expect him to feel? 😔

He did everything to give his son a better life! Immigrants come in all shades, but most come with the same dream…a better life. This is so sad.

I agree and we need to befriend each other. When I was in college and met my African friends from different African countries and we would have the hard conversations no one was offended because we recognized who was behind the stereotypes they were told about my people and what we were told here. Mind you, most of them were financially better off than me here in the US and back in their homes. Years later I attended a Nigerian church. The way I was treated and literally bullied because I was Black American was so hurtful from young and old. However I didn't let it turn me away. And eventually I was able to make friends there and help some of the parents navigate with their children here. Because no one is told how MOST teens here become a product of their environment unless parent supervision is active daily. This is not country you can leave your children and work all day to earn money. This is what cost my communities so much!! People of a higher financial status will never understand the sacrifice parents have to make to be present but miss out on money and or opportunities.

I think this story triggered a lot of us - African kids born in America because a lot of us never fully healed from the horrible way we were treated as children. And a lot of us are projecting it to the African American community because for some it happened from people who looked just like us, in those black and brown communities. And idk it hurts a little different when they look like you compared to when they don’t. Because we are the same, from different parts of the diaspora yes but the same deep down. But we do need to take a step back and understand that this happens in a lot of communities and it’s sick and starting a diaspora war right now is not what we need. We need to find a way to stop this from continuing and all communities.
