I KEEP telling people there’s a big difference between unwanted thought about harming them and a DESIRE to hurt them. She was terrified she was going to hurt them.

The whole trial I was shocked there was no professional that had caught she likely has ocd it felt so obvious to me

People don’t understand the real meaning of OCD and this is very true

interesting that she had fears that something bad might happen to them and something bad did happen to them. what a nightmare. Her intuition was warning her, maybe.

…Or a drug she’s prescribed makes her fall asleep and nobody is watching the children.

OMG I was terrified that I was going to drop my kid while trying to put them into their bassinet/crib...and by drop, I mean that they would spontaneously yeet across the room out of my arms like the exorcist.
Rational? No. Did it feel very very real in the moment? Yes.

How did I miss this. During the trial I assumed it meant she would purposefully hurt the children. Now that I think back to raising my children I frequently had thoughts about accidentally doing something or neglecting something that could caused harm. Tripping, dropping, car accident, forgetting to close a gate etc.

It's so sad, because her intuition was correct. Like Patrick said "she was afraid something might happen to the kids", and then her worst nightmare came true. Her intuition was screaming at her, but Patrick had her so drugged up and so manipulated, that she didn't know up from down. So though she knew in her gut that her kids were not safe, she wasn't able to fully connect Patrick to that feeling, because her mental had deteriorated so drastically, and probably, mostly because of what he was doing. It's so incredibly tragic!

being afraid "something would happen" vs being afraid "she would do something" are totally different things.

She didn’t have thoughts of harming the children. She had thoughts of something happening to them and her being responsible, or that there was something medically wrong with them, which is why she had them at the doctors a lot.

This is just more evidence (to me and my own opinion) that Patrick used this to hurt his family and blame it on his wife so he could get away with it.

it's related to ocd and can exist outside of it; intrusive is NOT a secret want, it's egodystonic. it's more alligned with self torture and fear. in ocd related intrusive thoughts, it is a shifting sight that targets what you care about most.

No literally! I’m a mom and I’ve had so many thoughts! For example walking in the forest with my baby on my front and thinking oh fuck what if I tripped on a root and fell on our baby. And it’s awful! It was just an intrusive thought.

When my son was a baby we lived in a second floor apartment and I always had flashes of me dropping him over the railing of the balcony. I didnt want it to happen, it was just a constant thought/ fear

Also, her telling Pat and her mom about the intrusive thoughts were the “confession” compulsion that’s so common in OCD.

Yeah. Those are intrusive thoughts. That’s not homicidal ideation. Intrusive thoughts can be very common in postpartum depression/anxiety/etc. I used to worry about the most terrible things happening.

As a mother of 4 and grandmother to soon be 15 grands, I STILL have irrational thoughts. Was just in Fl back in July and was terrified to step on the balcony holding one of my grands fearing I’d fall and they’d fly over the balcony. I think when you love someone these are just natural thoughts….or do I need to call a psychiatrist?
