Not for everyone. Most people who experience damage have thin/fine hair strands so the boar bristles create too much tension which can lead to damage. If you have thicker or more coarse strands your hair is more likely to handle the brush well. They do make brushes without the boar bristles which are low to medium tension instead of high tension

for me it did and I didnt realise until I stopped, it broke off my hair so I didn't realise there was damage while I was using it
